Discovering DAS Ethiopian Cuisine: Where Tradition Meets Innovation
Welcome, fellow food enthusiasts! If you’re searching for an authentic culinary experience, our DAS Ethiopian Restaurant Review brings you insights into this delightful establishment. Returning to DAS Ethiopian felt like a reunion with an old friend. We dined at the Michelin-rated DAS multiple times in the past decade and were excited to be back.
This visit was extra special–we reconnected with a lifelong friend and introduced our teen to Ethiopian cuisine on a sunny patio in vibrant Georgetown.
Background and Atmosphere
Situated at 28th and M St NW, DAS Ethiopian Cuisine exudes a friendly yet formal ambiance. In a two-story house with a patio overlooking Georgetown’s M Street, it charms with proximity to the Georgetown University and shopping around Wisconsin and M Streets.
A minority-owned gem, DAS Ethiopian combined traditional recipes with contemporary techniques, drawing politicians, socialites, students, and local patrons, and families like ours for high-quality Ethiopian food.
Savoring Ethiopian Cuisine at DAS: A Culinary Journey of Flavors and Textures
Our diverse selection of dishes captured the essence of Ethiopian cuisine. Guided by our server’s recommendations, we savored the vegetarian sampler, chicken and beef sampler, lamb tibs, and Vegetarian Sambusas. DAS Ethiopian’s versatile menu caters to every preference.
Though our teen didn’t instantly embrace all Ethiopian flavors, she favored the lamb tibs. The Injera, a spongy, sourdough crepe-like flatbread, added cultural exploration to her experience. While using it to scoop up meats and veggies, the Injera’s distinct tanginess and unique texture required some getting used to.
DAS Ethiopian Restaurant Review: Pricing, Experience, and Culinary Immersion
During our visit, the Das Vegetarian Entree Sampler was priced at $21.95, the Das Chicken and Beef Combination Sampler at $22.95, and Lamb Tibs at $20.95. Additionally, the Sambusa Appetizer, two pieces per order, was $10.
Injera was provided at no additional charge. Our dining experience immersed us Ethiopian flavors, creating a memorable encounter for our Fearless Foodie. Although for now, she’s decided this cuisine isn’t her favorite.
Attention to Food Allergies
Das Ethiopian prioritized guests’ well-being, evident in servers’ knowledge of food allergies. Generally, Ethiopian cuisine’s emphasis on beef and lamb aligns with our family’s nuts, sesame, and shellfish allergies. For gluten sensitivity, note that injera that is usually wheat-based, but may include rice flour, corn flour, and teff (gluten free). Some dishes feature boiled eggs, so informing the server about egg allergies is recommended.
DAS Ethiopian Restaurant Review: Final Thoughts
For a fun, sophisticated dining adventure in Georgetown, DAS Ethiopian is a must-visit. Experience tradition and innovation with sampler dishes and lamb tibs. Whether you’re an Ethiopian food enthusiast or looking to try something new, don’t miss the chance to savor the delicious cultural experience that DAS Ethiopian offers in a great DC neighborhood.
