11 Fragrance Free Hair Products To Try For Eczema & Acne Prone Skin (2024)

Fragrance Free Hair Products

Our family struggles with eczema, allergies, and fragrance sensitivities, making finding suitable hair care challenging. We’ve tirelessly sought fragrance-free products online and in stores to meet our unique needs. Updating last year’s list, this post offers an enhanced guide for those seeking the best fragrance-free products in the market.

Let us know if you have suggestions or comments on this list of fragrance free shampoos and conditioners!

Our Ideal Fragrance Free Hair Products Wishlist

  • Gentle on sensitive skin prone to eczema or acne breakouts
  • Free  from peanut, tree nut, or sesame oils
  • Fresh scent from natural, not synthetic fragrance
  • Efficient lathering for shoulder length hair
  • Moisturizes and nourishes color treated hair without breaking the bank

Years ago, this wish list for our ideal fragrance free hair products seemed impossible to meet. However, I’m optimistic today as more manufacturers seem to be responding to the growing demand for fragrance-free products, extending beyond allergy sufferers to people who want to limit exposure to toxic chemicals.

Fragrance Free Hair Products & Nut Allergies

In fragrance-free hair products, natural ingredients add moisture and pleasant scents, but watch out for allergens like nut oils—they can trigger issues like contact dermatitis. Almond, macadamia, argan, and shea are common culprits, so remember to check labels. However, refined shea nut butter is generally safe. If you’re wary of sesame allergies like we are, be cautious with emollients like organic sesame seed oil, found in brands like Aveda and Kiehl’s; they offer scalp moisture but may cause irritation.

Starting the year, we’ve spruced up our list of fragrance-free shampoos and conditioners, covering costs, ingredients, and pros and cons. This guide is your go-to for those dealing with fragrance, nut, or sesame allergies, or if you have sensitive skin prone to eczema or acne. It’s all about keeping your hair care journey informed and hassle-free!

We hope this list of fragrance free shampoos and conditioners is helpful to you. Please let us know what you think and if you have any other recommendations!

12. VERB MORINGA + JOJOBA TREATMENT OIL

This “do-it-all” serum is built to hit the reset the button on damaged, brittle hair and dry scalp. I had been looking for a serum that was fragrance free and not too heavy and so far this has been my favorite. I don’t love the medicine dropper dispenser and would prefer a pump, but I like the product so much that I’m willing to overlook it! The packaging is colorful and provides clear direction on how to apply it. For damaged and split ends, apply a few drops directly to damp or dry hair. For dry scalp, use as a pre-wash treatment, massaging drops directly into roots before shampooing. There’s a Verb shampoo and conditioner with this line, which I’m eager to try as well.

Key Ingredients Moringa and jojoba oil
Formulated Without Fragrance, silicone, paraben
Pros/Cons Pros: For all hair types, super-hydrating, fragrance-free, silicone free, 100% natural, great for skin and cuticles Cons: Somewhat expensive for the 1 ounce bottle

In Conclusion

Today, it seems the market for fragrance free shampoo and conditioner offers so many more options than a few years ago. Prioritizing fragrance-free products in colder weather prevents drier hair and eczema flare-ups, and we’ve made the switch. In recent years, we’ve also educated ourselves on many of the benefits that fragrance free hair products provide. We’ve also overcome biases we’ve learned over the years and have learned that despite minimal foaming, these sulfate free shampoos effectively clean hair, removing dirt and excess oil.

We trust this list proves helpful and commit to continuous updates as we explore new options. Although most brands offer both a shampoo and conditioner, 2-in-1 shampoo and body wash options for babies are also worth trying, and we’ll add these to our list over time.

Please feel free to share your experience in the comments and any other brands that work well for you!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
