A Taste of Excellence at New Heights Restaurant
Hey there, fellow food enthusiasts! Come along with us on a mouthwatering journey to the charming New Heights Restaurant in Woodley Park, DC. Nestled at 2317 Calvert St NW, Washington, DC 20008, this Michelin Guide gem offers an unforgettable experience in New American cuisine. Our visit to New Heights during spring break made it one of the most memorable dining experiences, not just for the food but also for the wonderful company we enjoyed with a good friend.
Background and Atmosphere:
New Heights Restaurant, tucked away in Woodley Park, has a history as rich and flavorful as its cuisine. The restaurant’s decor and friendly bar create a warm, inviting ambiance that sets the stage for an unforgettable meal. The cherry on top? It’s even earned a nod from the Michelin Guide, a testament to its enduring excellence.
But there’s a deeper story here that resonates with me. New Heights Restaurant is now in the capable hands of Mark Namdar, Olena Fedorenko, and Executive Chef Jose Molina. These culinary maestros, hailing from different corners of the globe, have taken the reins of the restaurant without changing its trusted name. It’s a first-generation American dream come true, and it’s a tale that hit close to home for us.
Mark, originally from Iran, views Washington, DC as “the land of opportunity.” Alongside Ukrainian-born Olena and Chef Jose, a native of Bolivia, they bring a world of culinary influences to the table. Chef Jose, who’s been crafting delicious dishes since he was 16, believes in the power of seasonal ingredients and the magic of Latin flavors. His creations tantalize the senses, turning each meal into an exquisite experience. As Chef Jose puts it on their website, “New Heights is my American Dream.”
Menu and Food Highlights:
The menu presented us with delightful options, and we couldn’t resist trying our friend, Sung’s favorites. The Cheesy Onion Fondue ($15), a mouthwatering blend of fontina cheese, caramelized onions, lemon, and garlic ciabatta, was a savory delight. Our main courses, the Free-Range Chicken ($28) and Pan-Seared Halibut ($38), were simply exquisite. And for a sweet ending, we couldn’t pass up the Classic S’Mores dessert ($16), complete with a tableside grill. We had a blast making our very own s’mores. Additionally, the Filet Medallions ($38) were beyond delicious, featuring 6 oz Tenderloin Filet Mignon Medallions, Chimichurri, Bearnaise, oyster Mushrooms, and Potato Croquette.
Service and Dining Experience:
Service at New Heights Restaurant was absolutely top-notch. The staff efficiently attended to our needs, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. This level of service, reminiscent of Michelin-rated establishments, made our visit all the more memorable.
Attention to Food Allergies:
New Heights Restaurant deserves applause for their attentive approach to food allergies. Their menu is thoughtfully labeled, and they offer numerous gluten-free options. Our dining experience was seamless, thanks to their dedication to accommodating special dietary needs.
Final Thoughts:
