La Purépecha: Best Tacos in Santa Monica
Step into La Purépecha, Santa Monica’s best place for tacos, and experience authentic flavors, friendly service, and unbeatable value. Tucked away from The Promenade’s hustle, this family-owned gem offers casual vibes and genuine hospitality, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the start. The name “La Purépecha” pays homage to the indigenous Purépecha people of Mexico, known for their rich culinary heritage and dedication to traditional cooking methods. Just like its namesake, La Purépecha celebrates the essence of Mexican cuisine, offering a genuine taste of tradition with every dish.
Price: Exceptional Value for Authentic Mexican Fare
La Purépecha offers exceptional value for authentic Mexican cuisine. With burritos starting at $10.50 and tacos at $3.50, you get quality food at affordable prices. Don’t miss out on their Nachos for $11.95 or their flavorful Ceviche starting at $16.50. Craving comfort food? Try their Caldo for $10.99, a Mexican soup that’s sure to warm your soul.
Taste: Culinary Delight with Handmade Tortillas
Our experience was fantastic from start to finish. As we waited for our tacos to be prepared, we enjoyed warm tortilla chips with red and green salsa. Crafted with love, their handmade tortillas were a testament to authentic Mexican tradition. Recommended the Street Taco ($3.50) and Fish Taco ($3.50), we were delighted with bursts of flavor and freshness. The Carne Asada and Carnitas ($3.50 each) were exceptionally flavorful, complemented by house-made salsas. Notably, the Fish Tacos stood out as the freshest and crispiest, embodying the Purépecha’s fishing heritage. They were definitely our favorites of the tacos, although the others came in at a very close second! And they have a seasonal rotation of refreshing Aguas Frescas ($3.50). We chose the the hibiscus Jamaica and were so happy we did, since it complemented our tacos perfectly.
Service: Genuine Hospitality and Attention to Detail
At La Purépecha, genuine hospitality and attention to detail stands out. Attentive to our food allergies, the son assured us of careful preparation to avoid any contact with shellfish. He also shared with us that the mole was nut-free, and how it was prepared in house. Noticing how much we enjoyed the salsa, he kindly brought over to us two handfuls of extra red and green salsa to accompany our chips. Despite limited seating (3-4 tables), he was apologetic and ensured a warm welcome throughout our visit.
Final Verdict
La Purépecha exceeded our expectations with its genuine hospitality, exceptional food, and affordable prices. With a focus on quality and authenticity, it’s a must-visit destination for anyone craving delicious Mexican tacos in Santa Monica.
